Spider Plant Propagation Guide

Spider plants (Chlorophytum comosum) are easiest via plantlets and can also be divided.

Plantlets

  1. Select a plantlet with visible nubs/roots.
  2. Pin onto a small pot of moist mix while still attached; sever after roots grab.
  3. Or clip a rooted plantlet and pot directly.

Encourage more babies

Provide bright light and long days; mature plants produce more stolons under extended daylength.

Legal note on propagation

Some cultivars are protected by plant patents and tags may read “asexual propagation prohibited.” Growers must comply until protections expire (~20 years from filing). When unsure, choose non‑patented varieties or grow from seed.
